Jesus Prayer Life

Did you know that tomorrow we are to remember by worship and/or prayer, The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus?

It is a very special opportunity to surrender yourself to the truth, the life, and the way. All you have to do to get started is say Jesus I love you, I thank you, and I'm sorry for my sins. Will you please give it a try? Peace to you.

Yes, it's a very special Day for me and the Prayer Group to which I belong.'The People of the Heart of Jesus'
We venerate the Sacred Heart of Jesus which is the symbol of Jesus' eternal love for his Father, and the source of the love and life he shares with all his brothers and sisters.
Jesus knew and loved us each and all during his life, his agony and his Passion, and gave himself up for each one of us."The Son of God.....loved me and gave himself for me." (Gal 2:20). He loved us all with a human heart. For this reason, the Sacred Heart of Jesus, pierced for our sins and for our salvation,is quite rightly considered the chief sign and symbol of that love with which the divine Redeemer continually loves the Eternal Father and all human beings without exception." ( Catechism of the Catholic Church,478).

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus I place all my trust in you. Amen

do you realize that when you accept Jesus and are born again that you are NO LONGER a sinner ?

a sinner is a sinner by nature so when a person receives Jesus his nature is changed and so BY NATURE (GODS NATURE) HE OR SHE IS NO LONGER A SINNER. Having read and owned this book the Jesus Scroll what are your thoughts?

The book even had a photo copy of a letter from the Israel Govt about the scroll and have to honestly admit that much of the book made a lot of sense and troubles me when thinking about it to this day. The problem lies in that the name Jesus was a popular name given back then as it is today in the latino culture but here is Wiki pedia article about it......http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0geu5eTyKJJch4AvlVXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTE0azNuaXBiBHNlYwNzcgRwb3MDMQRjb2xvA2FjMgR2dGlkA01BUDAwNl83Mg--/SIG=121pqk1e2/EXP=1235491347/**http%3a//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Jesus_Scroll

Non Jesus Religions

Why did Jesus ditch Moses and Elijah and found a new non-profit religion?

Based on the Jesus Christ (Hindu visualization allegory) transfiguration story, Jesus Christ replaces both Moses and Elijah on the totem pole of Gods.

Why did Jesus ditch Moses and Elijah and found a new, non-profit religion - Christianity?
Ben posted (in part):
Christianity was founded by Paul about 30 years after Jesus' death. Jesus never had anything to do with Christianity and still doesn't.
Earthy posted (in part0:
He (Jesus Christ) did not Moses or Elijah and Never founded any religion called Christianity. He only taught about Kingdom of God and showed the path to get there.

First of all, Jesus did not ditch Moses. He rather declared that he came to confirm Moses to the letter. That's in Matthew 5:17-19.

Jesus did not found and kind of religion. Even the Jewish Sect of the Nazarenes was
founded by his Apostles after his name.

Christianity was founded by Paul about 30 years after Jesus' death. Jesus never had anything to do with Christianity and still doesn't.

Christians - why is some of the Law worth following but some not?

Many Christians say that they should follow the Ten Commandments and biblical laws such as those that prohibit homosexuality, yet biblical laws that prohibit the eating of bacon go ignored. According to Paul, Jesus freed the gentiles from the Law. If this is so, does this only apply to certain laws? If so, which ones? Why do Christians need to follow the Law relating to creating graven images of God, but are free to eat lobster? According to Jews, both are equal.

This is a serious theological question, not a criticism. Please respond seriously. I am not "Christian bashing." I am Jewish, have studied some Christian theology, and have some questions. Thank you.
Just to clarify - I'm not focusing entirely on food laws those just happened to come to mind right away. There's plenty of other laws to use as examples - leaving a corner of your field available for the hungry to take from, eating unleavened bread on Pesach, etc.

The practices of Christian peoples vary more than the practices of the various sects of Jews. Not all the Jews take the law as seriously as other Jews .. both as sects and as individuals. This is same with modern Christians of the various faiths.

And in the early church once it was decided to let the gentiles in(and some isolated groups didn't and died out) .. then the old law was considered over and the law was cherry picked for what was deemed important for the new people .. a people based both on book and faith .. and not book and only for one people and one faith. Peter's "kill and eat" is a famous comment.

Although some are loath to admit it, the deviations from the law stem from both the New Testament and also traditions dating back farther than most can remember.

And weird things entered in .. like the Catholic Friday fish meal (which has been recently dropped by modern catholics and dropped centuries before by other christians) probably comes directly from the cult of Osiris living in the Corinth area where much of early Christianity sprang. see Joseph Campbell for more. In the cult of Osiris it was important to eat some fish on the Sabbath to get some of the god into you. (sound echoingly familiar to another Christian practice related to bread and wine?)

The study of early Christianity is interesting. as a start you might enjoy "Beyond Belief" by Pagels. what was left in, thrown out, and what was thought to be thrown out and is still there.

For example hidden in Roman Catholism are interesting Sufi-like and Gnostic overtones which although there is a line in the sand of "heresy" .. these teachings are rumbling around in the Catholic teachings and practices for almost 2000 years. These are not really found in the more western versions of Christianity.

ps.
The cherry picking from both old and new testiments and revieled knowledge is still going on today.

ps.
Jesus' coments about Love and Compassion and Forgivness being the way transending law man and religious teaching echo in most other religions. If we can cut others some slack and give them at least 1 other chance the world would be a better place. This is NOT to say to let them walk all over you - which some christians would agree and others would disagree.

Good Luck in your search.

Jesus Prayer Catholic

Is there an official protestant rosary prayer, or do people make them themselves?

I have rosary beads but I am not a catholic. I was just wondering if there is an official rosary prayer for protestants as i dont want to use something some1 has just put together themselves unless its jesus himself !
oh and if there is 1, can some 1 teach me how to do it or give me a site that helps me?

Oh, MB, you're an answer to a prayer. This is taken from one of the closing prayers of the Rosary:

"O God, by the life, death and resurrection of Your only begotten Son, You purchased for us the rewards of eternal life; grant, we beseech You that while meditating on these mysteries of the Holy rosary, we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen."

So, clearly, the main point of the Rosary is not worshiping Our Lady, but in allowing the mind to become immersed in the scriptural passages (mysteries, i.e. Annunciation, Visitation, Crucifixion, Resurrection, etc). I would say you don't even have to limit yourself to the traditionally accepted Mysteries. Pick a scene: the entry into Jerusalem, the sermon on the mount, and make that your focus for ten prayers.

I don't know of an official Protestant prayer, but I would suggest this:

Begin with the protestant version of the Apostle's Creed. The Our Father still works, and there shouldn't be a problem with the Glory Be.

If the Hail Mary is troubling, I would replace it with The Jesus Prayer, something the Eastern Orthodox use in with their Prayer Ropes: "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me: a sinner."

The Rosary is an incredibly powerful devotion. You're doing a good thing.

God bless

Jesus Research Books

Why do we get so many «thumbs down» when we even suggest that Jesus might not have been a historical character?

There's a lot of up-to-date historical evidence that Jesus might have been a fabrication, that borrowed iconography, rituals, traditions and mythology from previous pagan and mystery religions. Honestly, for those that are intellectually honest in search for the truth I dare you to let go of your Bible for a second and do some serious research. There are literally tens of books and essays in pdfs, written by contemporaneous historians and anthropologists on the internet who provide tons of hardcore evidence on the«Jesus myth» theory. So why don't you roll up your sleeves and get to work before just giving «thumbs down» everybody that mentions the issue?

The only historians who believe that Jesus existed are Christians. You are right, there is absolutely no evidence except for the gospels, that a historical Jesus ever lived. You would think that if he truly was the man he is purported to be, that other nations would have heard of him and that he would be mentioned in their writings. Christians will argue that what I'm saying is false and that there are legends from other nations that mention him, but all they are doing is assuming that the figure mentioned in other writings, is the figure of Jesus when in reality, it is probably the other way around - and the figure of Jesus is actually a copy of other gods. Christians who can't accept this will give me a thumbs down.

Jesus Christ Quotes Bible

Show me- where in the bible does Jesus himself show hatered towards homosexuality?

I don't want to hear about "God" (Ya whew) condemning it, I'm talking about the center focus of everything Christian,- Jesus Christ. I was raised to believe that Jesus was open-minded, and was himself out casted by the majority/church...

By definition Christian means "Christ-Like"...

So show me "quote un quote"
where does Jesus himself speaks negatively towards homosexuals?

Actually, Jesus is bisexual.

Follow the logic. The holy bible claims that the church is the bride of Christ and that each member of Christianity is a part of the body of the church. Therefore, Jesus supports gay marriage. Not only supports it but participates in it.

This also explains the wandering around with 12 guys thing....

Jesus Bible Study

How do I get the GSA replaced with a Bible study group at my school?

I think it would be more helpful for the students to learn about Jesus.

If you want to start a bible study group then by all means, go start a bible study group, but don't interfere with other students groups because you don't approve. School is already hard enough as is. Don't make it harder for students that just wants to belong.

Jesus Christ Quotes Christians

What do Christians think about these profound quotes ?

“There is strong reason to believe that St. Paul fabricated the belief system of Christianity from Zoroastrian mythology. In order to hide Paul’s plaigerism… Christians burned the library of Alexandria in 390 A.D. Books in that library kept Mithra’s original story of what Pauline Doctrine is an almost exact copy. (George Sarton , Introduction to History of Sciences) ,

“The son-ship of Jesus Christ is the greatest fiction of human history.” (Lord Bishop of Canterbury Commission, the Spiritual Head of England, 1910.)

“The son-ship of Jesus Christ, the Trinity, the blood sacrifice of the lamb of God, atonement are not the teachings of Jesus. These are all inventions of Saint Paul who never really met Jesus.” (Hastings Rashdall, The Theory of Good and Evil)

.

Paul was ok and had it right ...i dont trust a govt appointed spiritual head of england anymore than i trust the president .. and there were many that wrote of Jesus and His sacrifice other than Paul that had direct dealing with Jesus ..

Jesus Ministry Timeline

Christians - I have a question regarding...?

...Acts 5, where Luke writes of the Pharisee Gamaliel's speech (vv. 34-39)…. This speech would have taken place around AD 35-40, yet it refers to Theudas' revolt of AD 46-47 as a past event. Furthermore, Gamaliel is made to say that "Judas the Galilean" raised a revolt which followed that of Theudas - but Judas' revolt was in AD 6 or 7! We know these dates from Josephus, most notably, as well as from other records.

In addition, what are we to do with the wide variation of chronologies in the Gospels, different placements of pericopes in the timeline of Jesus' ministry (i.e the healing of the paralytic in Mk. 2), and the substantial disagreement of John with the other three, in terms of historical outline?

Thanks!

Please note first of all, such issues have been raised for centuries by serious and devote Christians. This is not a convenient form to answer your question. Your question about the Gospels can be answered by looking into a harmony of the gospels text. The question on Acts could be answered in a commentary on Acts. Reference books of this kind can be viewed at your public library or local Seminary or College library.

Jesus Bible Quotes

When Jesus quoted the bible did he quote the OT of the NT?

Obvious answer ,I know .
If Jesus did not need the NT why do we ?

First let us look at the Gospels.

These record events of Christ's ministry, and the quotes that you mentioned. So, we need the Gospels.

Acts of the Apostles tell the history of the work that Jesus commissioned them to do, and clearly shows his backing.

Now the letters.

The change from the Jewish system of hundreds of laws, and a physical temple with a priesthood, to a brotherhood of ministers, who all were assigned to share in the ministry was a major and new concept. All other faiths in the world at that time focused on the similar pattern that the Jews had.

How then did this brotherhood handle the change? The letters of Paul, Peter, John, Jude and James showed the different needs that this expanding congregation, tied by faith, and not by family or by nationality had to face and the counsel that this body of men gave to deal with them.

We see with Paul's letters the importance of the events recorded in the Hebrew scriptures, the pattern that was set in them to point to the Christ and his ministry.

(Acts 3:22-23)
22 In fact, Moses said, ‘Jehovah God will raise up for YOU from among YOUR brothers a prophet like me. YOU must listen to him according to all the things he speaks to YOU. 23 Indeed, any soul that does not listen to that Prophet will be completely destroyed from among the people.’

(2 Corinthians 3:7-11)
7 Moreover, if the code which administers death and which was engraved in letters in stones came about in a glory, so that the sons of Israel could not gaze intently at the face of Moses because of the glory of his face, [a glory] that was to be done away with, 8 why should not the administering of the spirit be much more with glory? 9 For if the code administering condemnation was glorious, much more does the administering of righteousness abound with glory. 10 In fact, even that which has once been made glorious has been stripped of glory in this respect, because of the glory that excels it. 11 For if that which was to be done away with was brought in with glory, much more would that which remains be with glory.

(Romans 10:5-10)
5 For Moses writes that the man that has done the righteousness of the Law will live by it. 6 But the righteousness resulting from faith speaks in this manner: “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ that is, to bring Christ down; 7 or, ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’ that is, to bring Christ up from the dead.” 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your own mouth and in your own heart”; that is, the “word” of faith, which we are preaching. 9 For if you publicly declare that ‘word in your own mouth,’ that Jesus is Lord, and exercise faith in your heart that God raised him up from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one exercises faith for righteousness, but with the mouth one makes public declaration for salvation.

And then the book of Revelation.

John did not have much of a choice. He was given this revelation for the future generation that would be living in days of the Lord.

(Revelation 1:10,11)
10 By inspiration I came to be in the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a strong voice like that of a trumpet, 11 saying: “What you see write in a scroll and send it to the seven congregations, in Eph?e?sus and in Smyr?na and in Per?ga?mum and in Thy?a?ti?ra and in Sar?dis and in Philadelphia and in La?o?di?ce?a.”

So, to be a Christian, we need all the writings that help us to deal with the same issues that faced the 1st Century congregation.
