Is this a sin, please help?
Hello everyone, I am an earnest follower of Lord Jesus Christ, and I don't use any pirated materials. But lately I had the necessity to get some pictures to make a movie from windows movie maker, and this movie is for my own purpose and not for selling.
So I searched for pictures in the "Creative commons" or "Non-commercial" section of websites and got some but not enough.
So now as I need more pictures to make that movie, I need to google it and get the pictures which are from the websites.
But WILL IT BE A SIN TO GET THOSE PICTURES WHICH ARE NOT FREE EVEN IF IT'S FOR MY OWN PURPOSE?
(I am talking about the pictures that would appear when you go to the "Images" in the google) and my topic is "Books" as I need pictures of books and libraries.
PLease help me and tell me whether this is a sin or not..
Thank you in the name of Lord Jesus Christ .
I understand your predicament. You have to understand that the ones who took those photographs or made those pictures worked to produce them and publish them.
What you should be more concerned about is plagiarism. If you ever wrote an essay for college you will know that if you use someone else's information, you should give them credit. That is why they have CREDITS at the end of every movie. Maybe you should post credits at the end of your movies.
If you want to use a clip from a movie that is still under copyright protection, contact the ones who are in control of that. Send them an email saying that you respectfully request the permission to use their material. Tell them exactly how you intend to use it. Most of the time they will let you. They don't really care. What they do care about is when people download their movies for free or buy them from pirates. That really makes them upset.
They also hate it when people use their material against them. Kent Hovind is an excellent example of that. At first he refused to copyright his videos because he wanted to get his message spread. Then people who hated him and his ministry used his videos to attack him and misrepresent him. They would spout blasphemes and then post it with his videos. Hovind and his staff did not like that.
Look into citation and plagiarism. That will help you understand when and how you should use information that does not belong to you.
If you want to use Bible verses, use KJV verses and not the newer ones. If you use newer ones, you have to cite the sources and sometimes get permission. KJV is not copyrighted. Use as many verses as you like.
